Google launched Movies on Play and YouTube in India

After launching Google Books and Google Devices recently once again Google has come with something new for India. Google Movies has been launched in India on both Google’s application store Play and YouTube.

Both renting and purchase options are available on the same concept of CD/DVD shops available in market. Difference is that now you have to watch movies digitally on your computer or Android mobile screen. Movies can be rented or purchased in both HD and SD version. In case of renting a movie, you can watch the movie anytime but before 30 days from the date of renting. Once you start a movie taken on rental, you can watch it as many time as but only for maximum 48 hours. After 48 hours the movie will not be available. You can compare this with a typical DVD rental shop where you have to return the movie to the shop after 24 or 48 hours depending upon agreement with the shop.

Both Hindi and English movies are available in various categories like Action, Comedy, Drama, Family etc. Pricing differs from movie to movie and starts from Rs. 50 and goes up to Rs. 700 depending whether you are renting or purchasing a movie.

Enjoy movies !

Google’s Holi Gift – Nexus 7 Tablet now available in India Play Store

Better late than never, finally the first Google tablet is now available for purchase via Google Play Store (https://play.google.com)  in India. It has been priced at Rs. 15,999 which is higher from its US price but still value for money in comparison of all other tablets available in India. The tablet was launched in July 2012 in US. Although it took too late for Google to release the tablet in India but still its very good move from Google to make this available in India. Till sometime back only Android Apps were available in India Play Store and Google Books were introduced last month. Now Google Play Store in India has three sections Apps, Books and Devices.
Nexus 7 tablet is the first tablet from Google which is manufactured by ASUS. Google partners with various manufactures to build its Nexus line of smartphones and tablets. Nexus 4 smartphone has been manufactured by LG while Nexus 10 tablet has been manufactured by Samsung, both of these devices have not been released in India so far. One distinct feature of Nexus line of products is that these have pure Android operating system without any customization done by manufacturers. Due to this feature, Nexus devices are being updated first with every new version of Android operating system.

The tablet is very fast and having very good build quality. Major features of Nexus 7 tablet are –

  • Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
  • 7 inch IPS capacitive touchscreen
  • Scratch-resistant Corning glass
  • 1280×800 screen resolution
  • NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9  processor
  • 16 GB internal memory
  • 1 GB RAM
  • Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth (3G or calling facility not available)
  • 1.2MP front-facing camera
  • 4325 mAH battery
This tablet should be the first choice if someone is planning to buy a 7 inch tablet now or in near future and willing to sacrifice on 3G or calling facility. Apple iPad mini is available for around Rs. 21000 which is 5000 more than Nexus 7. Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 is having two versions – wi-fi only is available for around Rs. 12000 while 3G+wi-fi is of same price as Nexus 7. Galaxy Tab 2 is having a dual core processor so Nexus 7 is much faster than Galaxy Tab 2.
Google has shown support for India now so we can hope for availability of other products of Nexus line specially Nexus 4 to be available in India soon.
